Thanks for the comment Thruflo, good point! I guess I was in the head space of digital files & folder. The “desktop” of “desktop computer” is a different than the “desktop in the finder”. I guess just another example of a mixed metaphor, I’m the worst culprit.

Enjoyed the post but couldn’t restrain myself from noting that “desktop” is not a metaphor. It is where the computer lives.

Yes, geneva is quite the place, remarkably small, but the importance per square meter is astounding.

Hey Gillian, thanks for the comment, and encouragement! I’m still looking into making some cardboard furniture and setting up in one of these parks with wifi. Maybe i could get everyone to chip in and buy a solar panel, that would be cool!

Hi Patrick,

I wonder who you can send this to in the Ville de Geneve as feedback for making their parks more attractive to the growing mobile workforce (I love the phrase “nomadic workers” maybe you can add that to the list of buzzwords in your previous post). They could also have small solar stations where people can charge their phones or plug in their laptops (like by street lights – the solar power could light up the street light and the excess could be used to charge phones or laptops.) I also like the idea of cardboard portable furniture, or blow up varieties too (like pool chairs, but for the lawn in front of the WTO). I enjoyed your post, I am also interested in the workplace of the future, and as more institutions downsize, outsource, and create temporary distributed teams around specific tasks (that they afterwards disband), there is much more scope for this kind of work, and for these kinds of outdoor workplaces. Nice blog – I am always happy to find local bloggers!

Brilliant site, Patrick! I am new to all this TED stuff but finding it more fascinating every day. You have become a sort of electronic flaneur!
Love the stuff on Geneva. Especially since it sits above the Large Hadron Collider as well as all those sources of water to feed the fountains!
Also love the bit on pubs (ARMS)! I will be quoting you, if that’s ok, in my book on the pubs of Ballinascreen, if it ever gets “finished”!
